Default Recommendations for a dishwasher costing $500 or less

    Hiya Forum members,

I am after a good quality dishwasher costing $500 or less from a reputable outlet. Any recommendations? I think a new dishwasher would be better than a second hand one because the quality is guaranteed under the Consumer Guarantees Act?

Don't want one that leaks causing flooding, do we?

I'm told that it will take a builder several hours to make a space in the kitchen cabinet for a normal (i.e. not compact) 600mm wide dishwasher to be installed into. And that this builder's work would cost about $300.

Then about $200 or $300 for a plumber to install the piping and other water works for the dishwasher.

And then $200-$300 for an electrician to do the electrics.

So all up, $900 to $1400 for the entire project.

Would that be an accurate cost estimate for the whole project?

I'll also have a look through the Consumer magazine issues at the library for articles on dishwashers and any recommendations they make.

    Thanks for your help,
    Barry.

I think they cost about double that, I just have a basic under counter F&P and from memory it cost about $1100.
It's my 2nd one for about that price, the last one lasted about 11 years and I figured it wasn't worth repairing when it started playing up.

    Thanks dugimodo.

Have a look at www.priceme.co.nz, type in the search term "dishwashers" and you should see dishwasher models ranging in price from ~$450 to around $2000. What I am wanting to know is are there any good quality dishwashers for $500 or under that are sold by reputable outlets? Don't want to buy a malfunctioning dishwasher from a shonky dealer, do we?

The cheaper models little in the way of sound deadening in them, Parmco are a NZ brand owned And made here, so all parts are available. Don't go for the Haire or warehouse brands though

Those dishwashers that can also cook and clean require a phenomenal amount of attention to keep them running sweetly.
It is absolutely essential to ensure you get a good one or there will be great difficulties in future. It is even more important to observe every one of the operator instructions to avoid explosions.
