    Default Apple cloud 'life' wiped

What would you do if your entire digital life started evaporating before your eyes and there was virtually nothing you could do about it?

This is the nightmare scenario that greeted US technology journalist Mat Honan, who had all of the contents of his iPhone, iPad and Macbook Air wiped, and lost control of his Gmail and Twitter accounts, all in the span of just over 15 minutes.

And the scariest part is that he had a strong, seven-digit alphanumeric password. Apple has confirmed to Honan that its own tech support staff provided the hacker entry into his online world via a bit of clever social engineering.

I dont know if I should feel sorry for the guy or if I should laugh.

That sucks... Though 7 digits is hardly uber-secure these days.

Most of my stuff is linked back to a single email address, I'd be pretty pissed if it all was wiped

I guess the old adage of don't put all your eggs in one basket is still true.

Cloud services are great.....as long as they're not your only backup.

Nah..........He is an iDiot for putting his faith in a 'cloud'. and not maintaining an off-line backup for his data.

If Apple acknowledges that the iCloud could all end in tears, what tech-savvy person would contemplate taking the iRisk?

Hero to zero in a few clicks of a one button mouse! Not quite of course, but close, judging by the speed of execution.

Let's hope NASA doesn't have their Martian probe communicating via 'clouds'

That's what happens if you link everything up like that. Not saying it can't happen to me but if you have access to any email accounts you can fry someone's life.

I don't keep stuff worth wiping if the device was lost, instead it would be encrypted if I was worried. The whole deleting this is fussy, if they get the device under wraps fast enough it cant be wiped and your data is lost. Encryption is real time and current. If I really wanted stuff deleted I would use some enterprise system on my laptop and not have that info on my phone which is SO easy to steal or loose!!!

Why would you want to back up Stuff?

    Duhh ... stuff, not Stuff!

I have multiple email accounts everywhere and a domain too, none of the passwords are the same, even the social networking ones are different.
Think my email is 16 alpha-numeric-symbols while fb is 22 characters, G+ is 24.
