    Question Favourite Tamarillo Dishes

One of mine is a sandwich of Pics really good peanut butter
chopped fresh raw garlic and hard almost green (the stem anyway) tams,
Add some drained yoghourt or blue cheese and put the lot on a slice of dense rye bread.

Or a salad of chopped parsley, kale, tams, garlic, lemon juice and apple (all from the garden)

Wrapped in flat bread with chili jam and home made onion bhajees...YUM!!!

Sounds positively revolting not the sort of thing you will find on these refined Nelson dining tables

In pre-historic times I smoked cigarettes, and used to enjoy eating a tamarillo after a smoke.
Dave, don't tell me you are harvesting tamarillos now, or was your post a memory of better times ?

    So what brought this on?

Tamarillos - Long forgotten about them, have not seen them, like persimmons for a long time in local vege stores.

Well, your sandwich recipe could possibly have a future as an opossum repellent, unless the SPCA throws a wobbly. Also, if any of it got into waterways you would be in two kinds of trouble - dead fish everywhere, and every pebble or rock turning to greenstone.

The old tree tomatoe. Use to get them. Pour boiling water over them to make it easier to remove the skin. Then after removing the skin slice them up and put into a bowl add some sugar and mix it in then serve them in a pudding plate with cream. Yummy.

The reason there are not to many/any Tamarillos in the supermarkets is because of the new variety of Phsylid (think thats how to spell it) that is effecting potatoes, tomatoes, and capsicums mainly, but effecting other plants as well, including the Tamarillo.
Adding to the long list our "world class" biosecurity has not managed to keep out.

??? There are plenty of Tams in the supermarkets, albeit at $15.99 a kg. Your psyllid infection of the fruit and veg you mention is news to me. My own tamarillo tress have cropped abundantly this year and have been delicious. Still have some pulp ledt in the freezer.
