    Default Windows 7 Updates - 133 - install them all ?

    Hi Guys
I have had Windows 7 for a year and I had updates turned off.

I just turned it on the other day.

Now I have 133 updates to install.

Most of them are small security updates plus some Service Packs and other ones of course.

Would you go ahead and install them all or just the Service packs ?

Would you recommend leaving Updates turned on all the time ?
So what colour is your Adkaf?

Unless you have a specific reason to avoid a particular update, I would go with all the critical updates at least, and let it update regularly.
    Windows 7 x64 // i5-3570K // 16GB DDR3-1600 // GTX660Ti 2GB // Samsung 830 120GB SSD // OCZ Agility4 120GB SSD
    Windows 7 x64 // Phenom II 955 // 8GB DDR3-1333 // GTX460 1GB // Corsair Force3 120GB SSD

I always put them in, as you mentioned most are security updates so they are fixing holes in the system, and some fix bugs found in the system as well. Some have to go in before others so it pays to let then go as they come. I normally leave them a couple of days as sometimes a patch can cause trouble, and MS have usually sorted the problem by then.

If a person doesn't put them in, its totally up to them, but dont complain if something something happens and there has been a patch put out that wasn't installed.

I have set mine to Optional ie non automatic updates. Most are small MSE ones. So far I have installed all except the Bing Desktop (which I do not want).

It is easier to do the updating on a regular basis but I also diarise the update with file size in case a "hiccup" occurs then I can reverse it f I decide he update was he ssue.

Install SP1 first, then update. Saves on the redundant updates

That's what I thought, but I tested it on two machines side-by-side from vanilla installs by watching the bandwidth both consumed, basically it doesn't download the whole of SP1 as an "Offline installer" but just grabs the bits it needs.

It's easier to just hit "Select all" then update, and rinse and repeat several times after several reboots

I agree, Chill. Who has enough life left to try to figure what to install and what not to.

I reinstalled Windows 7 64 bit on the 17/7/12 and installed 113 updates most critical but some optional. I leave updates on as per Wainuis post.

If you reinstall often or update several machines it can save some data to download the service pack disk image and burn it to a disk.
Otherwise just let it do it's thing.
