    Default Linksys WMP54G Windows 7 64Bit Drivers

I purchased a Linksys WMP54G wireless card for my desktop two days ago. However when I installed it, it didn't use generic windows drivers but showed up in device manager as an unknown network device. So I went to the linksys site to get the drivers for the card but found they didn't supply any windows 7 drivers or 64bit ones. So I downloaded all of the different avaliable drivers for the Linksys WMP54G v4 and stuck them in a folder and pointed device manager at it but no luck. Windows update also failed to find any drivers. I see many other people on the internet have this problem but never for this specific card (the chipset is used across many cards), I tried some described work arounds but they didn't seem to work. Any ideas?

    This from Tomshardware.
You said you downloaded the latest driver, but did you try to get it from the chipmaker itself or only from Linksys? The actual chip on that WiFi card is a Ralink rt2561. Generally, you'll find more recent drivers if you go straight to the chipset manufacturer.

Here's the link to Ralink's Windows driver page:

    You'll want the PCI/mPCI/CB (RT256x/RT266x) driver, I believe.

Here's another tip: instead of installing the entire package supplied by Ralink, go to device manager in Windows and manually install just the driver and let Windows handle the WiFi. Things tend to go much smoother with this method.

Already tried that. Driver is an exe which I don't think I can direct windows to. Once installed wifi card stops appearing in device manager altogether and the program that comes with the driver says that there isnt a wifi card connected.
