realtek high definition audio ..no audio output device

i have been going around in circle trying to resolve this ..first i could fix it by system restore but now it seems to be constant..the little speaker icon has a cross beside it and says no audio output device ...when i go to sounds it says no audio device installed even after i have just installed..i have tried uninstalling /reinstalling ...updating the drivers..going to device manager i get this message..
This device cannot start. (Code 10)

any ideAs ? i have been at it 4 hours now ..could the hardware be faulty

Does it work if you plug in headphones or external speakers? And whats the computer?

no it doesn't work with headphones..acer aspire 5520 running vista thanks

The error message "This device cannot start. (Code 10)" Means you have corrupted drivers.

You have to fully uninstall them and reinstall fresh ones.

Edited: have a look on the C drive, look for a folder that contains all the original drivers ( exe files), cant remember off hand what its called, ( but it will be there) it could even be a hidden folder.

Once you find them, then go into the control panel, programs and features, remove the realtek audio drivers, after a reboot go to the folder you found before and try to reinstall them. If its still not working then you may have to remove them more deeper with something like Revo uninstaller, then try again.

still not working ...would buying something like this be a cheap fix... Creative Sound Blaster Play! Sound card, External, USB ...cheaper then taking it to a shop...or would that not work too...

Depends what you want. If you like your sound card already then get it fixed or else just get a new one.

Expensive way to fix a driver problem. ( and impossible) as long as its really a acer aspire 5520 as it shows as a Laptop, not a desktop, and doing a search for a desktop with those numbers always brings you back to laptops.


Step 1
You need to fully uninstall the original drivers as I mentioned with something like revo uninstaller, in advanced mode. Normal uninstall usually wont do it as it leaves to much behind.

Step 2
"if" the original drivers are not there or corrupted then download the right ones Try these make sure you select Vista from the Operating system drop down box since you said its a acer aspire 5520 running vista and install, they should work as long as theres no hardware failure

Slight OOPS to above, didn't see it was an external sound card -- still an expensive way to go to bypass a driver problem though.
