Thumbs up Hear Ye - Google Drive Is Here.

Google Drive - in the sky.

The rumors were true: Google’s personal cloud-based storage service, Google Drive, has been released today with 5GB of free storage.

It includes both free and commercial versions.

The minimum free service will include 5GBs of free storage, and you’ll be able to buy additional space for up to, brace yourself, 16 terabytes of storage.

In addition, Google Docs’ available storage for your documents has moved up within the last twelve hours from 1GB of storage to 5GBs.

You can see if you have this additional storage for yourself by going to your Google Docs setting page. You’ll see about half-way down the page a listing for storage.

This seems to be, for the moment, only available if you’re using the English language version of Google Docs.
Users who don't speak US-English may not be able to access this system. Youse guys?

It ALSO APPEARS to have something akin to TextBridge whereby it can scan (for instance) a newspaper page and you can search by a phrase or word in that same document.

This is likely gonna set some fires with M$'s free stuff.

(Did I say 'free' and 'M$' in the same sentence? My bad.)

May your screen door of life not swing in the winds of bad choices

I have no idea what that means - I just think it sounds erudite, that's all.

I think with enough referrals dropbox now lets you have 8 or 16gb (cant remember) of free space as well.

Here is a major concern for anyone thinking of using googles service:

    From the TOS:

"Your Content in our Services: When you upload or otherwise submit content to our Services, you give Google (and those we work with) a worldwide licence to use, host, store, reproduce, modify, create derivative works (such as those resulting from translations, adaptations or other changes that we make so that your content works better with our Services), communicate, publish, publicly perform, publicly display and distribute such content.

The rights that you grant in this licence are for the limited purpose of operating, promoting and improving our Services, and to develop new ones. This licence continues even if you stop using our Services (for example, for a business listing that you have added to Google Maps)."

So, anything you upload is no longer private and essentially they then own your files to do as they please. Not something I will be subscribing to thanks.

ALL YOUR FILE IS BELONG TO US (and, presumably, the F.B.I.)
