Question Webcam via VLC over home network

So trying to stream my webcam out over VLC on my home network, but there are a few things not explained properly, <I have searched F1 and google before posting too, and wikihow http://www.wikihow.com/Stream-Your-Webcam talks about scripts? so I am lost there> I would of thought it would be easy especially since VLC seems to have a open capture device guide... so I need to know please:

    When it says >source: dshow:// >type: dshow

Next.. Destination: file, http,RTSP,RTP which one, I select HTTP and then add this pc IP address is that right? Where it says path/ do I leave the / and then enter IP after or before it?

Port 8080 is this fine? Do you just make one up when they say pick a port? Do I need to tell my router to allow I would of though my IPs have access to Network (Also windows firewall asked for permission which I allowed local network access) All my local IPs have access to network & web.

    Transcoding options?
mp4 doesn't show me on screen locally when I tick "Display Locally" so I change the video type to something I can see while streaming like WMV-WMA TS. then

Miscellaneous options - no idea so Ileave it, it has this as string:
    :sout=#transcode{vcodec=h264,vb=0,scale=0,acodec=m p4a,ab=128,channels=2,samplerate=44100}:http{dst=: 8080/192.168.2.10} :no-sout-rtp-sap :no-sout-standard-sap :ttl=1 :sout-keep

OK so start another computer on my network with VLC click option network enter IP 192.168.1.55 which is the source PCs,

Anything obviously wrong any advice appreciated.

    Thanks to any help.

If we do this right this link will be looked at all over the world because my search of it showed years old posts with no resolution.

Yes have been pointed to that forum but not that thread - that helped. Thanks.

So what I needed to do was select MMSH, selected transcode: ASF and then type in for address mmsh://ip_of_serverort

Here's what seems a simple tutorial from a blogger. It mentions HTTP protocols, and has screen shots.

I got it after I got the addressing right with

    mmsh://ip_of_serverport

but could also use http://ip then:8080 if that is the port

Fred Fish: what do you do with the batch file? Specifics are really good.

    Um ... execute it.
Either from command line or double click it.

It just calls vlc.exe with the listed options, so I don't have to spend 5 min's clickety-clicking on menu's & options to set it up every time I want telly in another room.
