Default Old Menu bar for MS word 2011 on Mac

    Hi All

Have started using an Apple Macbook pro after using Windows XP for an age. Was using Word 2003 and I seem to recall that when some of the later versions came out with the horribly cluttered menu(?) bars some-one found an app which changed these new menu(?) bars back to the old styles as found in word 2003. Can anyone tell me if this app is available for Word 2011 for Mac?

    Cheers. Neil

Have a look at the Office for Mac Ribbon help, there are some different options to hide or turn off the Ribbon. Does any of these do what you need?
    cheers

Cheers for the link, the mac layout is a bit scary at first, mind you so was 2k7 (or what ever it was that introduced ribbons) in a win environment and I got used to that.

That looks like a pretty useful thing... mind you I pretty much gave up on MS Office after 2007 was released and use OpenOffice now.

Its not to bad actually, the Classic menus is a paid Program, but it has a lot nicer interface than the free one from ubit.

The paid one actually looks as if it were made by MS as its a tab, and all the options look close enough to identical as 2003.

I actually wonder if M$ haven't got fingers in that software -- They actually advertise it on their own office site Microsoft Office

Whether they do or not is probably irrelevant, they've probably realised that a lot of people don't like the ribbon, and that promoting something which gets rid of it is a good way to keep customers.

Personally, I doubt I will ever go back to MS Office if I can help it. OpenOffice does everything I need and much more, don't have to worry about cost ever again, and it works on all platforms, so no matter which OS I might be using I can run it.

I don't use office suites much really anyway, the occasional letter etc, mainly I use spreadsheets for drawing up price lists and comparing products etc.

Would be nice if it didn't have to rely on Java but I guess you have to compromise somewhere!

Well I would assume that if you are using open office then your comments on the ribbon or replacement menu for MS Office are not very relevant.

Yes, because a discussion about Microsoft's choice to advertise an add-on for their own product hinges so greatly on my personal preference of software...

Office 2010 has further modified the ribbon and has dispensed with the Orb - closer to Office 2003.
