Default Computer Freezes When Attempting to e Mail Photos

When I right click on a a photo in Windows Explorer it brings up around 20 options. All of these work on my computer except the "send to" command. When I click on this my computer freezes and I have to go into Task Manager and end the programme. I's be grateful if anyone knows how to fix this. I'm using Windows XP.

    Thanks JR

Open the email program and attach the photo. Then send it. It sounds like something you've installed ( thats been added to the send menu maybe corrupt).

What else is under the send menu (besides the default options)?

Yes, I can do it the way you suggest but the advantage of going via Windows Explorer is that it gives you the option of compressing the photos along the way.

The three additional options that have been added seem to be scanning with Security Essentials and Malware Bytes and load to creative Zen MP3 Player.

Sounds like something is still corrupt somewhere if it freezes. Have you installed any codecs for anything? These can cause probs / become corrupt

You've got me there Speedy. You had better explain to me what a codec is.

If you dont know you wont have any. They're used for media player, if it doesn't support playing DVD's or something

I've found a Canon RAW converter Codec in control panel/add/remove programmes. Could this be causing the problem?

Could be. Does it say the name of the file, when you kill it in task manager? Look in event viewer. Start/run type eventvwr.msc. Look under system / application for errors

I struck something similar to this with a workmate. Turned out she was trying to email 50MB of photos all at once, and the email system was quite justifiably not happy!

To hell with Windows poxy compress option. Use an application better suited to compressing the files and then send them, or send fewer of them.

What is the format of the files you are trying to send? JPG's should cause no problem but if they are RAW files; that might be the cause of the problem. RAW files will be many times the size of the finished JPG and ordinary viewers won't open them. Just check to see if they are .JPG or .something else. Different camera makers use different extensions for RAW format.
