    Default WiFi Extender/Repeater Recommendation

A motel owner is looking for some form of WiFi extender/repeaters? The motel is built with concrete slabs, so probably need to install one or more repeaters in the hallways.

Have used a TP-Link WiFi access point in another motel before, it worked ok after quite a bit tweaking and trying different locations. Wonder if there are easier ones.

How is the layout of the motel?
What I've done in the past is use something like an Ubiquiti NanoStation mounted on a pole or side of a building facing towards the motel rooms.
This means you only need one or two of them to cover all the rooms with wifi.
Easy to install as you only need to get one CAT5e cable to the unit which carries power and data from the router/switch.

Go to TradeMe and look up the Accton MR3201. Pick them up for around $60.

Buy yourself half a dozen of them and set them up in a mesh network. Easiest way to ensure coverage for a low-performance network

$60 is dirt cheap for a mesh device.
Last time I priced something up it was over $400 per unit.

Avoid the Dlink access points. The Repeater mode they use(on the one I bought) was designed by retards: will NOT work using std Win wifi drivers on laptops , so most laptops will be incompatible (with Dlinks repeater mode)

You still need to put the repeater or mesh device somewhere that gets a good signal. Im guessing thats the issue you were having.

Yeah they come pre-configured with the robin-mesh firmware

This man speaks the truth... I wouldn't go near them either.

Thankfully with them costing so little you can take several and throw them all over the show. Buying a bigger antenna for a couple of them isn't too expensive either if you really need

Thank you all for all your valuable suggestions. I will have to sit down and read all the stuff in the links this weekend.

Tried to look for Accton MR3201 on Trade me but they are no longer on there.

The 2 storey motel is layout in kinda like L shape, about 5 rooms in length on the long side of the L, and only 1 room width on the short end. There is an open walk way upstairs for access to all the rooms. So I guess if we can get couple of mesh devices on the ceiling of the walkway, it should extend the range quite well?

I guess the trick is get the ethernet cable (with PoE) to it without them being an eyesore, as the building is all concrete block, so probably not easy to hide the cables. I guess they can probably put the cables in nice conduit along the front edge of the ceiling with the mesh device mounted on the pillars just below the ceiling, that way, people won't see the cables when looking up from the car park.

If you're doing it as a wireless mesh with repeater nodes, then you don't need network cables, it's all wireless.
