    Default Certificates and XP

My XP machine (SP3) has forgotten what to do with certificates (.cer extension). File associations for .cer are missing. I downloaded the certificate I need, but right clicking on it don't give an install option, just an "open with" option, and it's only offering notepad and internet explorer. The certificate installs fine on right-click on another XP machine, and in file associations it says it opens with "crypto shell extensions". Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks.

OK, many thanks -- I had to select from a list, could not write in, but that worked.
