    Default Routers and Custom firmware

Ok, so i'm about to flip over the china in the middle of NZ summer for the enjoyment of some lovely Beijing ice and snow.

In the middle of packing I suddenly decided (as you do ) that I need to hurry up and finish some black listed projects (stuff that I really should get on to but always put to one side)

Included in that list is painting the house... but that comes later.

I need (or want actually) to get a handy dandy router and get rid of any craptastic firmware on it, then blitz it with DD-WRT or Tomato.

Turns out my current handy dandy router isn't supported

So, I need some recommendations for a cheap flashable router.

    Specs as follows:

    802.11N Preferable but not necessary.
Will be a test rig, hooked up to just about every custom antennae you can imagine.
Needs to run DD or Tomato
Less than $100 unless it is freaking amazing.

Also, while I'm at it, does any one know where I can buy wireless antennae extension Coax, in line amplifiers for 802.11G/N and the little screw sockets to go with the extension coax? I probably looked in all the wrong places cos I couldn't find any!

Suppliers can be in NZ or Beijing, since I'm over there anyway

    Cheers! Merry networking

Bring me back some too please

BTW - The GC only has 2MB flash, not enough for Tomato or Gargoyle, only the Mini version of DD-WRT... The WL-520GU has 4MB, which is the minimum you really want

    Yeah. I knew that.

And if that Linksys is anything like the WAG160N.... well. Do you know if they fixed the overheating issues?

Yup they apparently did from what I've read Apparently the overheating was only on the models that have ADSL. I had a play with a bog-standard Linksys AP (WAP4400N I think it was) and had no issuse with overheating. Gave it a real hammering and left it in the sunlight.
