Question ? 90# - is this a scam or not?

There are a number of emails going around today suggesting there is a Telstra Clear (supposedly) tech ringing and asking people to press: 90#.

The suggestion is that this allows this person to place long distance telephone calls billed to your home phone number.

    Is this for real?

    It's an incredibly old one.
You cannot gain control via a home phone. Once, in 1989 when the Neax first went in you could,m but you had to know the exchange codes, and my husband stopped it all. Bugger.

    The 1st one where?

"The first NEAX61K digital telephone exchange was installed in 1981 by Telecom New Zealand at Lower Hutt and its successor, the NEAX 61E, was first installed at Auckland's North Shore in 1987. "

Snopes or email hoax sites like this http://www.hoax-slayer.com/ are good for checking things.

Computers are like Air Conditioners, they stop working when you open Windows.

With any of these things - just put the action letters or words in to Google.
In this case the 90# is answered immediately.
