    Default Windows 7 - connecting to a shared printer

    Hiya,

    On the Win2k computer it is connected to a printer (Canon MF). I have the latest driver it does say Win7/Vista/XP and in brackets 32bit. There is no x64bit driver - dunno why. Canon brand laser MF - you would expect. They bought the device not me, I would of preferred a HP.

    I have Win7 x64. Is the above my problem?
    I am using Win7 x64 trying to connect to the shared printer. I have browsed the folder. It provides a EXE file and in a subfolder there are a few INF files I think. Doesn't work. And, I didn't use run setup.exe cos I am connecting to someone else's printer.

    Advice?

    Cheers ...

    It probably wont let you install it if the drivers arent 64 bit

    Yeah .. when I view the Win2k computer via networks. It says "no driver found" and ask me to manually browse to locate the INF file.

    Oh well. But Canon said this laser MF was a small business type, lol, but we got a good deal from the toaster shops, shop demo. 32bit -just fantastic. Only 2 or so years old.

    Is it the MF5750 or another model? If it is, there are 64 bit drivers on the site

    Canon MF5630

    imageCLASS MF5600 Series Printer Driver Ver.3.00 for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7

    Last Updated : 02-Nov-2009

    OS

    * Windows 7
    * Windows Vista
    * Windows XP
    * Windows 2000

    Ran it and it spat out:
    This setup program is not for 64-bit Windows

    Thanks for your efforts
    Reminds why I didn't get a Canon SLR camera. They changed the lens mount on the previous design making people get EOS and replace everything

    I run a canon ip3000 on a combined print server/switch in my home office, neither had 64bit drivers when I first installed Win 7 yet they have been printing fine since day one go figure as I couldn't

    Try this, set win 7 updates to Automatic then plug the Canon printer in as a local printer, ie on a usb cable. When win 7 discovers it does not have a driver pre loaded it will connect to windows update and try to find a suitable one. This worked for me when trying to connect an XP connected psc 1200 to a 64bit win 7 on my LAN when nothing else would do it. Be aware tho' that the Canon MF5630 is not listed as compatable on the windows 7 compatability web page even for 32bit

    The MF 5530 appears to be compatable in both 32 and 64 so what is the difference between them?

    Cheers Jinja

    Not tried the 5530 drivers may do on the old laptop and see if it works ... the laptop is wired to the PC - the LCD is stuffed after 10yrs so it's a PC now.

    I tried WU with the Win7 x64 wired to the printer does not work. No drivers available.

    My HP 6L and the Canon BJC80 portable color bubblejet still work with Win7 - not sure if x64 bit thou but if the drivers are from MS I assume they apply to x64 too. Decide against selling them cos I get peanuts, with a LPT - USB cable they work and for my office style printing a 300 dpi is all I use anyway.
