XBOX 360 vs. PS3

Hey Guys,

I've finally decided to buy a PS3 or XBOX 360 but I'm deciding on which one to buy.

XBOX seems to be cheaper and come with better deals but have issues with the "Red Ring of death." Also, it cost to pay online but I have heard that their mutiplayer gameplay is much more reliable than the PS3. Can I connect to my broadband router wirelessly through my wireless router without a cable?

The PS3 is expensive but I have heard that they are reliable. I heard that the quality of graphics is better on the PS3. Apparenty multiplayer gaming can be wirelessly connected without connecting a cable to the router.

If I buy either a PS3 or XBOX, I'm deciding between either Forza 3 or the upcoming Gran Turismo 5.

Could you guys give me some advice on which one I should purchase?

Forza 3 is a stunning game, Just beautiful to play (with the steering wheel),

Its claimed the current model of the Xbox has the reliability problems sorted, but MS are untrustworthy bastards.

Graphics comparisons are a big meh, Run either through a modern large screen TV and you will wet yourself, sure they look crappy compared to a modern PC but as far as TV games go....

I'm waiting on Formula 1 2010, Though Codemasters make shitty driving games so it will be interesting.

I'd be inclined to look at a PS3 if I wanted a combined Blu-Ray player/Video game system.

Having both consoles, I can say that I barely ever play my ps3 ( not least because the controller is a cheaply made uncomfortable pos, but I digress) games just seem to run smoother on the 360, and in general when games are multiplatform the 360 is the lead console (ie development is done on the 360 and then ported over to the ps3) meaning that in general frame rates and graphics are better on the 360.

Having said that though the ps3 does have some nice exclusives, ie Uncharted 1/2.
Forza 3 vs GT5 will be a tough one though although polyphony will have to make some HUGE improvements over GT5:P to come even close to forza3 as atm the cars feel floaty and unresponsive and with none of the realistic behaviours that Forza 3 exhibits.

Online is an area I don't get involved in as I much prefer single player or local multiplayer, but the general concensus from friends and others appears to be that the playstation network suffices but that xbox live gold does offer a better experience if you are willing to pay for it.

In terms of the wireless on the ps3 i wouldnt bother, I used to have my ps3 hooked up via wireless and had no end of issues with connection dropouts and low speed, most of which have now been resolved by moving to a wired connection ( although the download speeds in general on the ps3 are atrocious, maybe 1/5 to 1/10 that of the 360).

Yup the only thing I dont like about the Xbox is you have to get a gold acct, to play online. But, I can live with that. It wasnt exactly fast on Xnet anyway.

You can use wireless on the Xbox, but you'll have to buy the wireless adapter (either G or N, if your router supports wireless N). You may have less chance of getting the RROD on the later models of the Xbox.

The slimmer version of the Xbox maybe coming out sometime this year, (Oct or Nov), along with Natal

the Forza series is in a different league to grand turismo, if you're looking for realism in car gaming, go for the 360.

online play i dont worry about as i prefer single player and local multiplayer like lagbort mentioned.

I'd have to disagree.
First for gaming you want a PC.
But anyway, PS3, friend dithered between them and it came down to 2 things with him.

The PS3 had a blu-ray player, a very good one, and the games.
Really it depends what games you are more likely to get.

In these times I wouldn't recommend a PC for gaming unless the person was a First-person shooter junkie and was keen on spending as much coin as possible.

Outside of FPS the PC gaming scene is decimated.

The only thing I would buy is a PS2 so I could play Soul Calibur 2

For everything else (especially FPS) there's the PC...

To be honest, I've given up on PC Gaming. I purchased games like Tom Clancy Splinter Cell - Conviction, The Saboteur, Just Cause 2, NFS Shift, GTA IV + Episodes from Liberty City etc have been horrible (in terms of gameplay issues, continuous patch downloads (which don't improve the game), multiplayer issues and horrible frame-rate. I feel most of these PC games were ported directly from the XBOX/PS3 version.

Modern Warfare 2 and Battlefield BC2 were great on the PC but it takes ages to find servers and I wouldn't find many servers compared to the number of servers you get on the XBOX 360. And alot of the people I played used auto-aim hacks/wall hacks etc.

At least with a console, I know I won't have to worry about patches and game hacks.
