    Default eBay\China\shipping cost - profit??

    I bought a CF to IDE adaptor from China on eBay for $1 US with free shipping

    I received it today, in an envelope 3 times bigger than necessary, with 3 stamps on it $2, $2 and 10c

    Did it cost them $4.10 US to send me what I only paid $1 for?

    How can this possibly make sense\profit?

    Nope it wouldn't be USD but instead HKD (Hong Kong Dollars) which is 0.73NZD.

    Amazing isn't it? There's a seller on there that sells items way way cheaper then I've ever believed was possible.

    But do you know what the cost to produce said item was?

    I worked for a place that sold needles for record players ( vinyl ).

    Our cost in NZ was 27 cents per. Sold for $5.99 per.

    DealExtreme? I have no idea how they do it eh. Some really cheap stuff on there. I reshelled my Nokia N82 for about 20 bucks.

    Which works out to $1 US....

    Only thing that possibly makes sense is Chinese Yuan, that works out to about 60 cents US

    Maybe top ebay sellers also buy postage in bulk - and probably pay less than retail for stamps. Even insurance for small items I bought on e-bay seem to be cheap.

    Methinks you have your US/NZ exchange rates backwards:

    $1.0000 HK == $0.1799 NZ == $0.1285 US
    $1.0000 US == $1.4000 NZ == $7.7819 HK
    $1.0000 NZ == $0.7143 US == $5.5586 HK
