The charging is a Tad High for a simple setup - mind you also depends on what is required - been to many places that "just want it setup and updated" 3 hours later you walk out.

Since Dell are also going to be sold at DSE This Article - Considering they are well out of date, and require an hour or so's work just to get them upto date - AND remove the CRAP AV that comes installed - they could be actually under charging.

Edited: Its not the setting up where you make the $$ its when you have to go back, and fix the PC because someone "fiddled" and busted it or once you clean out all the spyware - they go right back and reinfect it again, even though you tell them what caused it in the first place.
Several of my customers do that - I have installed software to stop the infections - they turn it off or uninstall it so they can " do their thing" -- Reinfects.

Classic one I get -- an Email or phone call " I installed ????? - it was OK to install it wasn't it"

My favourite is when you get a spyware-infested PC which you discover is full of porn site cookies etc.

You then discover the PC's owner has a 15 year old son, but when you delicately suggest it may be net-surfing behaviour that caused the infection, you get the classic "not my little Johnny! He would NEVER look at such sites"

"Customers will pay $149 to have computers including internet and email and home entertainment systems set up, while smaller jobs, such as setting up a wireless internet network, will cost $129."

I do that as part of the build when people buy one off me.
And then they get free support for a bit after until they are comfortable doing whatever with it.

Ditto I do the same. All part of the service.

Do DSE actually build their "Own Brand" PC these days ?

Last time I went to the One in Lower Hutt, all they had on display was HP's

    Same here.

I don't think they do. Last time I saw a working DSE branded PC it had a Hyena PSU, ECS board, 256MB RAM and an Athlon 1200. That was obviously some time ago. Normally the only time I see them, they have a faulty PSU or motherboard.

Many people however have someone in the family who is the tech person. I'm that person in my family.

Need a Nerd? I think DSE are over supplied with them. I recently did a mystery shopping assignment on DSE, and I think they'd be hard pressed to assimilate product knowledge on toasters.

Here's hoping they're better than some of the staff.

Went into the Wellington (Black harp end) DSE to buy an Ipod. When the guy heard I wouldn't buy any accessories, tossed the IPod a metre or so to the guy at the counter. That wasn't so bad. When he said "no cover, no warrenty, you take the sale" that was when I suggested where he put the Ipod next.
