External HDD recommendations

I want an external USB HDD for a PS3 - any recommendations? Something around the 750Gb - 1Tb would be good, but would be happy with whatever the size vs price sweetspot is at the moment.

Does anyone know if external drives for PS3's still need to be formatted as FAT32?

And can I format it prior to attaching it to the PS3 (realize I need to use gparted or similar) or does it need to be formatted by the PS3?

1. DSE have Western Digital 1TB for $219.

2. Has to be formatted as FAT32 before using with PS3. It won't be recognised otherwise.

WD or Seagate, both have good warranties. You should be able to use Gparted to format the drive in FAT32 without a hassle, I don't think the PS3 will let you format it.

I think that one is intended for people worried about redundancy. Impressive though, but I would want it chained to something immovable.

(Not warranted (!) for teenagers, they are already fireproof.)

It is fireproof and waterproof, but it has a wee roof over it????

I did wonder about that. Maybe it's so the fire doesn't go out in the rain?

Roofs probably supposed to catch fire and fall on the enclosure so the whole things covered in flames.
