Default How to get rid of an update that won't install?

    Hi.

I have an update that has automatically downloaded via Windows auto-update. It doesn't look to be critical. It prompts me to shutdown and install, or install while I'm using the machine. In both cases it tries, but can't. Therefore, I get the same prompts time and time again. How can I get rid of it? I'm running XP SP3. Sorry, I can't remember the name of it. Cheers.

Well first you'll have to find out WHAT the KB of the update is. It may not install if its missing a file thats required (for it to install). Other than that, download it manually. And see if it'll install. Or click on the link (if it gives you one). And see what it actually does, and what it needs so it will install.

If you know the name of the update, you can go to Microsoft and manually download and install it.

Do you normally click on express install? Click on custom next time and it should tell you what update it is. You can also untick that update and windows will not try and install it again.
