Re: I have no use for a cave man language

Not slamming it. Just saying that it's use should be confined to those to whom it belongs.

And whose idea was it to make it a "National Language" anyway? I wasn't asked. Hands up anyone who...

Re: I have no use for a cave man language

I have no problem with Maori retaining and using their culture and language if that is what they want to do.

What I object to is having it foisted on me as a non-Maori. If people want to...

    Re: They are becoming ridiculous!

Members of the Armed Forces tend to have different words for people who engage in homosexual behaviour. "Poufter" is much kinder terminology. And Mr Little is probably very wary of offending the...

Re: I have no use for a cave man language

I can accept that you like it but do you understand it? I have a limited grasp of Te Reo but I seldom understand a word of My Dellow's cultural contribution. The key to communication is that the...

Re: I have no use for a cave man language

I wonder how many Maori understand conversational Maori language? Comparatively few by my observation. I am of Scottish heritage and Scottish Gaelic is part of my culture. Should I perhaps foist...

    Re: They are becoming ridiculous!

I'm so worried about this same sex marriage thing that I am planning on becoming a hermit before they make it compulsory. Can anyone recommend an uninhabited tropical island with a good internet...

Write a gratitude list and review it daily. And get off the pity pot; someone else needs to use it.

    Re: Why drop the "ing"?

Sadly it befalls us remaining bastions of the language to defend English as she is spoke.

I wrote a birthday card to my grandson, using, as is my wont, cursive handwriting. He could not decipher...
  9. Re: There's nothing worth watching on the TV these days

The idea is to get you hooked on On Demand and then introduce a fee for what is now free.
  10. Re: What have you owned for 20yrs and still using?

20 years? That's nothing. I am still using tools that were my grandfather's when he was a young builder and blacksmith in the 1880s. I've had them for over 60 years and they're still as functional...
  11. Re: There's nothing worth watching on the TV these days

Not sure if I remember the first episodes of It's in the Bag but certainly the early days of it. And Jack Maybury (sp?), too.
And when TV first came I remember people standing on the footpath...
  12. Re: There's nothing worth watching on the TV these days

The great boredom buster, available free in most towns and has been used for hundreds of years. Was using it long before TV came to NZ and after Life with Dexter was over on the radio. Better even...
  13. Re: What have you done with your old film prints and negatives?

A very healthy exercise separating the wheat from the chaff of five decades of photography.
The wheat got scanned from negatives when I could find them, prints when I couldn't and slides, slides and...
  14. Re: I want a free simple photo editor - recommendations please

I've used Irfanview since Adam wore nappies and it will do most simple tasks including adding text and basic colour, size, etc. editing.

It ain't Photoshop but it is free. And a lot simpler, too.

    Re: Lockdown limericks

    I'm not an essential worker
    So I guess I'm a bit of a shirker
    But at seventy plus
    I won't make a fuss
I'll just get around in a burqa.

Couldn't agree more. And now they want to eliminate the teaching of Latin which is one of the building blocks of English and of immense use in determining the meaning of unfamiliar terms. French...
