Re: Maybe We Are Being Forced to .....

Nice to see xenophobia still alive and well in Aotearoa (spelling checker doesn't like that).

I remember as a youngster hearing family members complaining about Dutch immigrants who arrived after...
  2. Re: Suggestions for Photoediting Software or subscriptions

Off the top of my head, there's Gimp - never used it much but many find it good, and it's free.

After that you start to spend. ON1 Photo Raw costs $NZ166 at the moment (special Christmas price)....
  3. Re: Here's a way to have a New Years party with a difference

Just when 2020 looked like a complete write-off, the Boston Dynamics robots saved the day!

I hope they got an extra shot of lube oil as a reward.

To be served consecutively - the first year he has to take the bus, then they lock him up.
  6. Re: Christmas with Kevin Bloody Wilson - if you're easily offended don't watch this

The tune sounds a bit like one they taught us at primary school.

    Don't remember the words, though.

    Re: Thunder Bird Email problems

That's a bit hair-raising. I have been using Thunderbird for years without any problems (other than those of my own making). I am now on 78.5.1 and I thought the .1 update followed the .0 rather...

Re: So Much For This Crazy Theory

Depends on whether you "dig down" with a spade or a teaspoon. The current issue of Physics Today (published by the American Institute of Physics) has an article on "The Math behind Epidemics" which...

Re: Lifetime warranty - with new older stuff?

I have always regarded "lifetime guarantee" to mean it will work until it fails and then the guarantee lapses. Makes perfect sense.

Re: Window 10 2009 Out now

    Just a hint of paranoia?

Waiting two weeks won't guarantee an update is bug free - a problem may depend on exactly what you do with your PC or might involve a slightly different interaction with...

    Re: Interesting

Very likely all those were contributing factors. The situation in NY as reported in the news was clearly bad but it is still a shock to put numbers to it.

Of course, we must be careful not to read...

    Re: Interesting

The figures in the Covid-19 sites posted above make interesting reading, especially the total deaths/total cases:

    World 2.6%
    US 2.7%
    Russia 1.7%
    UK 6.8%
    Australia 3.3%...

Show B.M. a picture of an iceberg and he becomes positively orgasmic, and just when I thought that the scholarly discussion of global warming in this forum had died away. Look, how about producing...

    Re: Really Big Hard Drive

My first encounter with a disk drive was at Uni in Europe in the early 70's. The IBM drive unit was literally the size of a washing machine. To insert the massive disk pack you opened the top of the...

    Re: Any Zoom experts here?

Today was the first opportunity to check the changed sound setup for this morning's Zoom meeting. I tried Agent_24's suggestion and sure enough, that did the trick and the sound came though the TV.

    Any Zoom experts here?

My wife and I have been watching some Zoom meetings put out by our local U3A. I have a laptop hooked up to our TV & stereo so we can watch streamed movies, concerts etc on the big screen in comfort...

    Re: LED bulbs: placement?

You may be right in your account of collusion between lighting manufacturers, such activities are not exactly unknown. However, incandescent bulbs have a major weakness that always gets them in the...

    Re: LED bulbs: placement?

Correct that LEDs don't like too much heat, but the circuitry they contain can get quite hot, hence the advice against mounting them in enclosed fittings.

Re: Light bulbs - how much wattage do you use?

Moving to LEDs is a no-brainer. Our living room uses 4x15W wall mounted fittings, passage ways & stairs typically 9W. Also have two 5W free-standing reading lamps.

    Reduced power consumption is the...
