Re: Dead laptop - as in very dead

Some Compaq's have the PSI internal and take 230 direct, so "measuring votages" may not be helpful on these models.
  2. Re: M$ doesn't want to know me - I've been cast out

Original XP was BIOS locked to the Compaq motherboard.
You may be out of luck, as the Office OEM has to also die with the motherboard, though they may take pity on that.

Re: Warehouse Motor Mower - part 2

20% through Chemo session number 3, they all work but it always comes back. Surgery and localised painting of sinus tumour in between, but in the chemo department we are running out of choices.

    Re: Speeding legal?

In all cars I have had in recent years, and in many rentals, the speedo is 3-5 k/m fast.

Re: Warehouse Motor Mower - part 2

Bought a Talon mower (korean copy of a Honda motor) from Bunnings. Said it had ball bearing wheels.
2 years later then the wheels cracked and literally fell off, found it did not have bb wheels,...

    Re: Speeding legal?

    I got a speed camera fine for being 4 kM/h in a 50 km/h area - $60.

The TED mentioned above is a factor (Time exposed to danger)
My car is limited at 240 km/h, so a quick flick and you ate passed...

    Re: Wifi Speed Fluctuations

The 2.4 GHz spectrum is a bit crowded, as noted above. Got a microwave, so have your neighbors (they are 2.4 GHz). Changed phones to 5.8 GHz, they were 2.4, as were wireless security devices.

    Any...

    Re: Interesting speaker crackle

Look at the % CPU used when they crackle, using Task Manager. If it is high, then the crackling may be due to one of the applications hogging all available CPU time

Hope he means VA, and not KA as posted.

    1425KA=1,425,000 amps at 230 volts.

TOM TOM have3 a benifit (that my old Navman never had) that you can edit maps, ipload them for others to download. Sort of open source to a point.

I now use a TOM TOM 1 v 3 and am quite happy, it...

    Re: Preventing static shocks

Foxy, if I get my hands on EHT measuring equipment (Extra High Tension) I could pop round and we could compare the voltage with and without your clothes on, see if that's a suitable place to start.

Re: House wiring and power outlets

Billy T may disagree, and If so I will bow to his knowledge but couldn't a permanent connection unit be used for the phone base set, connected to the lighting phase?

If not, please quote the rule...

    Re: Motorbike advice

Rode bikes up to 400cc for years, without a mishap.

  16. Re: Electricity supplier - daily fixed capacity charge41?!

Not sure of the cost, but it would depend a lot on both the accuracy you wanted and the primary current rating. The ones used by the Cenameter would be suitable (I think they have a 0-200mV output?)...

  24. Re: Electricity supplier - daily fixed capacity charge41?!

It is a problem to hard wire back to the meter. If the meters are rotating disk type, they have no pulse output.

If they are electronic with a pulse output, you need an "EGR approved test house"...
