    Re: M.2 Installation

Check the M.2 slot, sometimes they afix the screw to the mounting hole for the M.2 so may just need to remove the screw and then install your M.2 using that screw.

Re: I tried out Windows 11

Yep, I don't disagree with you on any of that. I just think for the average home user, this TPM thing in particualr is not going to be an issue because they are likely going to purchase OEM laptops...

Re: I tried out Windows 11

To be fair, have not encountered this issue... when W10 came out, we were on the front foot with most of our clients with the need to look at moving to Windows 10... but most of them were already...

Re: I tried out Windows 11

Actually I do for computers/phones... 5 years is the longest I'll wait between "upgrades"... so I'll research what's available, what's due for release, price and whether or not my current one does...

Re: I tried out Windows 11

The laptop might be 2 years old but that CPU is 4-5 years old depending on which 7th Gen it is. The first 7th gens were released in Sept 2016 and the rest in early 2017... 9th Gen was released 2019...

Re: I tried out Windows 11

Not entirely sure what you mean by "BS tricks" - Microsoft's move into TPM is actually a valid and very sensible one... I work in the IT industry and you'd be surprised how many users in a corporate...

Re: I tried out Windows 11

    All good points Wainui...

I think they pulled the trigger too soon on "announcing" Windows 11 and then made things worse by stating the "requirements" which has no caused an unneccessary uproar....

Re: I tried out Windows 11

I think this whole system requirments thing is been blown out of proportion... Windows 10 will still be around until 2025... so why stress about being able to run Windows 11 on current hardware... 2...

Re: What's the difference? Does it matter?

Short answer no it doesn't matter, when the PC is on and Windows Update is configured to download and install available updates, it will do so whether it be a cold start or a warm reboot. The trigger...

If you have a spare disk, try a fresh install of Windows... if the error persists then it could be a sign that there is an issue with the hardware....

    Re: Terminology question

If multi core performance is important then the 3600x is a "good choice" if you're strapped for $$$.

Personally I recommend going for the 5600x, it has vastly improved IPC as well as superior...

    Re: Terminology question

Windows 10 will still be fully supported until 2025 so there is no need to "build for Windows 11 Compatibility" now - anything you buy now will likely be due for a "refresh" anyway come 2025... so...

    Re: Annoying web page behaviour

That's likely an issue with the website itself rather than your browser.

I have 1 site in particular that has started doing this and it was after the company "updated" their website... new layout...

Re: Guide to multihoming home network

  22. Re: Sudden loss of get-up and go (not me but my PC)

Check if there is a driver update for your network adapter?
You should also try to run "ipconfig /flushdns" from a command line and then restart the computer.
  23. Re: My PC went "bang" last night as I was suing it

Yeah, something a lot of people don't think about is that the supply of power to NZ homes can be inconsistent and "noisy". Erratic and sudden dips and surges in the feed can lead to all kinds of...

    Re: Internet Security

Yeah MS Security essentials is fine for the average user... that with using common sense around what you click on and open.

Personally, I always advocate adding 3rd party end-point protection.......
  25. Re: My PC went "bang" last night as I was suing it
