Re: Windows 11 Latest Tech Preview

This explains why my copy of W11 has never done an automatic update, & never bothered me with notices. Best Windows I have ever used!

They should have deported him years ago, but kiwis are too "nice".

Re: MS wont stop you installing WIn11.

W11 will be available to the public on October 5th. If your computer has ever had W10 activated on it you shouldn't have any hassles.

    Re: Live recovery USB options

They also say that if you reinstall W11 it will not get updates! What a blessing! Almost makes Windows worthwhile. I have used W11 for a couple of months now, and found it to be very stable, fast,...

I hate documentary's with background noise & musak. Its hard to hear the speech when its being drowned out by noise which more often, than not, bears no relation to the subject. An example being a...

Re: How long do your laptops last?

They could both run Windows 11. Microsoft just wants you to buy a new computer, and add to the land fill. The trick is to put the data from the W7 iso together with a W10 loader on your USB stick. It...

Re: Problem with a friend's laptop.

It does have a 520 GB SSD, quite fast. The only problem is that it Restarts instead of shut down. When switched off it will sometimes boot automatically if you plug in the charger. Apart from the...

Re: How long do your laptops last?

SWMBO uses my first Dell Vostro bought in 2008, with XP installed. It has never had a problem, and with a SSD installed, with Linux Mint it runs like a new one.

Re: Problem with a friend's laptop.

Working well with Mint 20, boot time is reasonable. Still has the shutdown problem, & the web cam is dead. I made an image of the Linux install, then installed Windows 10. It still had the shutdown...

Re: Problem with a friend's laptop.

Windows was full of junk, and it had been trying to do auto-updates for years, I decided to reset it, but it couldn't do it. Then I tried to set it back to the previous update, but that was long...

    Problem with a friend's laptop.

A friend bought an HP Spectre 2 in 1 laptop, which has been a pain in the butt for 4 years.
At the moment, if it boots it takes at least 5 minutes.
Can not access F9 or F10 for BIOS or USB boot....

I have a problem with small ants in my Dell Inspiron 17.

Is the Toshiba 32 bit, or 64 bit?
Your best bet is to download a Linux Mint XFCE iso file (32 or 64 bit, as required) & burn it to a USB stick. Boot the Toshiba with it and see how it runs. If Ok...

That is not a Windows 11 start menu! The current one resembles a cross Chromebook, and Linux, icons not tiles, and curves.

Re: I tried out Windows 11

My point is that W11 runs well on a VM hosted by a computer which is deemed unsuitable, yet will not even attempt to install directly to the computer. There is a blocking mechanism in the loader.
