    Re: First time overclocking E8500

Means that for starters just run the ram at low mhz and then mess with it later

    Re: First time overclocking E8500

    Worth a shot

Sometimes I find good results come easily enough if you leave all but cpu and ram voltage on auto.

    Re: First time overclocking E8500

Won't hurt but I've always found it easier to leave ovrerlocking the ram till last if possible

    Re: First time overclocking E8500

Best option is to try both. I'm not sure why the lower multiplier could be better but if you end up with a higher fsb and lower multi for the same end mhz, you will usually get better performance

    Re: First time overclocking E8500

You should now just keep floundering around and playing with various things until you understand what dies what.

As long as you don't go crazy high with any voltages or frequencies you'll be sweet.

Ihug/Voda have always seemed a bit funky to me. Up until not long ago if i set a download that would exceed the cap the internet would keep at full speed and then be capped shortly after it finished....

    Re: 4850 or 4870?

The fact that all the benchmarks are at 1680*1050 should be a hit that the next money you spend would be wisely put on a screen. Since it improves all of the time you spend on a pc is spent looking...

Always a good test to see what's causing issues with your internet is to unplug everything from the phone lines except the modem and then reset the modem and check if anyhting has improved.

    Re: Mailbox vandalism

I had a friend with a security letterbox that people loved to mess with. One day it was completely smashed so they just put the old one back. Since it was much less conspicuous it was left alone

    Re: Hard Drive Space

640gb in my desktop because it's the fastest i have.

    Fileserver running windows home server:
    2x 320gb Seagate
    500gb WD
    1500gb WD
    800 gb free

    80gb in my laptop :(
  20. Re: overclocking guidance for a newbie please

Increasing the voltage does not make it go any faster on its own.
Ideally you want the voltages as low as you can manage and still have it stable at the overclocked settings
  21. Re: overclocking guidance for a newbie please

It's just the specification. I've always read it as use this voltage to get these settings stable. You can try running at a lower voltage if you want though but i think you'll find that it needs the...
  22. Re: overclocking guidance for a newbie please

At those sort of temperatures I would say it's best to stop pushing for more unless you get better than standard cooling.
With leaving the fsb where it is you can manually set the cpu voltage at...
  23. Re: overclocking guidance for a newbie please

What sort of voltages are you using at that speed?
  24. Re: overclocking guidance for a newbie please

Like others have said the cooling on the northbridge should be sufficient.
If you're running at around 400mhz fsb there should be a memory divider which lets you run the ram at just double the fsb...
  25. Re: overclocking guidance for a newbie please

    the spp is the northbridge
    the mcp is the southbridge
