Thanks for that Agent
I haven't had time to look at the photos...... Yeah, if it IS the problem. I need an "enthusiast" who'll do it for next to nothing just to see if it works. I'm "working on" a couple of people I know....

Well, did what wuppo said and the laptop behaved exactly as he predicted. It let me get all the way into the rescue disks to restore the OS and as soon as I plugged the power supply in the thing cut...
Thanks for that wuppo. I'm away at the moment but will try it out and let you know what happens.
It's on the Toshiba site as Satellite L50-A01Q PSKLNA-01Q00J, Price $1,599.00 RRP NZD (inc. GST)
Thanks for that mzee. I've decided to chuck in the towel and go for a new laptop (see here), but I'll make a note of that piece of Acronis software for future reference.
Just stuff I take on my Canon Camera. At high def the files it produces are pretty big cos it will only save in MVI format :( Back in 2010 I bought a (German I think) Editing program called Magix I...
Thanks for all that Speedy. The info about Office was useful - that was one of my main worries. I've been to the Classic Shell Website and that looks as if it could be useful if it works like it says.

Hi People
After my two threads of yesterday it looks as if I'm going to have to bite the bullet and get a new laptop (SWMBO is all for it - says I'm wearing hers out!).I'm limited by budget...
"Roger" to all of that 13. Depressing prognosis eh? :(
Yeah, I did wonder about dust and stuff - it's probably got a fair bit inside it, given our house (NB that's NOT a criticism of SWMBO's house keeping skills! Thought I'd better make that clear.........
Sorry Speedy, no BSOD. When I said "crashing" I really meant the power cut out, so it had to be restarted.
The original, "suspect" drive has been removed, and an install on the other drive...
Thank Goodness. I'm really glad about that! Yesterday I tried doing a search for you whilst on my Asus Tablet, but couldn't turn you up :(
Still the same old agent I see!! ;)
Thanks for the replies guys.
To give you a better idea of where I'm at, or coming from, (or something), I've started a new thread about my actual laptop woes here.
Hi
I’ve got a Toshiba Sattelite A 300 which I may have got as far back as 2008, It’s running Vista Home Premium SP2.
A bit before Christmas it started “acting up” in that it sometimes it...
Hi all
It's ages since I've been on here but it's nice to see that a lot of the old names (sorry, that should probably be "familiar names") are still active.
I've been experiencing problems...
Yeah - the wireless in Libraries is a bit contentious. Why should my rates be subsidising overweight teenagers spending ages on Facebook?
Thanks for that link PPp. I actually come out as well within the "normal" range, which is good. Can't have the pot calling the kettle black can we? ;)
Do you mean that if they used a pedal car they'd get thinner, or that they just wouldn't bother, thus reducing the weight of traffic on the road?
Ha! Talking about putting the cart before the horse!! My wife was listening to the news on radio this morning and heard a report that went along the lines of.... Recent research has shown that...
