  1. Re: My PC went "bang" last night as I was suing it

The power grid is noisy in any country, that's why devices often include protection against the usual transients etc.

To make the power supply blow up would take a bigger than usual surge, such as...

  3. Re: My PC went "bang" last night as I was suing it

A brand new PSU blew up after 36 hours of operation?

    Manufacturing defect.

Re: RIP: A Death has occurred in the family.

You might be able to service it, might just be some rollers etc that have worn. Rubber bits etc.

Re: Why doesn't the camera flash whine?

The frequency is probably too high and the audio level too low to be picked up easily on set, and adding it in post would probably make little sense as not everyone's equipment could reproduce it...

I thought this was going to show their military actually playing the song on loudspeakers to the soldiers...

    I'm disappointed.

Re: Why doesn't the camera flash whine?

It's the sound of the transformer (and possibly other components) in the flash capacitor charging circuit vibrating at an audible frequency.

You can also hear a high frequency whine from the...

    Re: Reboot Your Aircraft

WTF, you'd think they'd have better software engineers...

I predict the same sh!t will start happening with cars, especially autonomous ones, if it hasn't already.

    And I have my suspicions...
  12. Re: Sent iPhone X for battery replacement, Apple say it's been modified and returned

Actually I wonder if they had to open it destructively, found out it was unmodified, and then had to give you a new one.

Re: How do we save a FB post?

Get the person who took the photos and videos to send you a copy of the originals on disc or USB drive...

Farcebook will compress them to Hell and back, especially the videos.
  14. Re: Sent iPhone X for battery replacement, Apple say it's been modified and returned

Seems surprising, maybe they saw your thread on the forum...
  15. Re: Sent iPhone X for battery replacement, Apple say it's been modified and returned

Apple hate repairing anything and will make as many excuses as possible not to, thus trying to sell you the latest one instead.

Your best option is probably a good third-party repair shop unless...

    Re: Another Rort...........

Does seem pretty stupid. But that's bureaucrats for you, they're all backwards and/or out of touch with reality.

Probably didn't want to allocate any of the budget to asbestos removal and in the...
  17. Re: Electronic Kit Suggestions for clever 7yr boy, real reviews please

I've tried that software and I don't like it.

I've simulated real, working circuits in it, only to have the software blow the components up and tell me the design was no good.

    (Good) simulators...
  18. Re: Electronic Kit Suggestions for clever 7yr boy, real reviews please

About that age I was given the Dick Smith Funway kitset and loved it (but I was already interested in electronics).

Jaycar's Short Circuits series is practically the same thing. (But Funway stuff...
  19. Re: Samsung 34" led Curved monitor repair? Worth it?

    Crack in the middle?

I see impact damage on the left hand side.

I doubt you'll get that fixed under warranty.

Best bet is to buy another broken monitor of the same model with a faulty...

You could try what I did in Windows 7. Don't like that awful, blurry Segoe UI font? Delete it! Windows has no choice but to use an older, actually readable font.

Now I mostly use Linux, and it...

If it's full of asbestos then fair enough, I wouldn't want anyone vandalising that and releasing it out into the air.
