Re: Downloads from Acer AU dog slow

Thanks, will use IDM. Since downthemall doesn't work anymore I've not had a good multi-threaded download manager.

For me it's using 8 threads and downloading at around 300kbps, so 40x8 = 320,...

Downloads from Acer AU dog slow

Found the last few weeks trying to get anything from Acer AU is horribly slow.

Could I get one or two people to try and download this file and see what speed you get? Just want to make sure it's...

    Re: AIO specs comparison

You will be pleased with the performance of the Intel one, especially with the SSD, if you're happy to spend that much. The AMD tech in those machines is very old, and very average. When they get...

Boy those AIOs are expensive for what you get.

I personally wouldn't touch the AMD at all.

Basically you don't wank Skinny. There is a reason they are as cheap as they are - nothing at all wrong with their service, but they have to cut cost somewhere - they do that by using CGNAT instead...

If you are going to spend that much, you are far better off getting either this and one of these, or this and one of these.

Yeah, more than likely the drive has issues, 55GB is a lot to have in there.

You can download Speedfan which will let you do a SMART check.

    Re: Locking External HD

Pretty sure WD have their own software to do this - probably came with the drive. Think it's called SmartWare?

Re: to buy or not to buy

The new 8th Gen processors are pretty awesome. I would not worry about the whole meltdown thing at all. Make sure you get a mainboard from a reputable manufacturer, like Asus or Gigabyte.

Don't touch a laptop with an AMD processor at the moment. When they finally get Ryzen into mainstream laptops, then have another look. :2cents:

I should say the HP Probooks and Elitebooks are great too. If you want something nice, either a HP Probook or Elitebook, Lenovo ThinkPad, or Dell Latitude would be the way forward.

Both those printers are pretty dear to run! Kyocera normally make good gear though I think you'll be happier with that than the Samsung.

You specifically want a 13"? That does limit your options significantly, especially for something with a decent graphics card, and pumps up the price too.

Tends to use the RAM available. Pretty normal. If you didn't look at the memory used, I doubt you'd ever notice an issue, possibly minor slowdown if you had heaps and heaps of apps open at once.
