    Re: MotherBoard and Memory

Most generic boards will work with any RAM so long as it's the right type, speed etc. The qualified module list just shows ones that are tested and guaranteed to work. I've never done that and its...

Re: Is there any hope for us ?

The latest isn't always the best. Sometimes lagging behind has its advantages.
  3. Re: HDD gone RAW ... back to NFTS but not accessible

Testdisk is pretty good for a free tool.

I also like FileScavenger but that requires purchase.
  4. Re: HDD gone RAW ... back to NFTS but not accessible

Best not to run Chkdsk on a drive that's gone corrupt without first checking SMART.

If there are reallocated or pending sectors in SMART, do NOT run chkdsk as there may well be more data loss or...

For the record, that's an inductor next to your connector, not a capacitor.

You can't open the drive at all, or just can't copy a specific file?

So Windows has become adware like Android?
  8. Re: How to receive the built in microphone with ear phones?

You need to enable the monitor/playback of the microphone. Usually this is muted because people only want recording.

Re: Should the sale of Lotto be postponed?

At best, gambling is a luxury for those who can afford it, at worst it's a life-destroying addiction.

I have bought the occasional lotto ticket, usually when the jackpot is ridiculously high, but...

Re: Should the sale of Lotto be postponed?

How is that a bad thing....?
When did anyone need to waste money on lotto tickets?

Next you'll be telling us there's drug addicts being discriminated against because their local meth dealer is...

    Hilarious.

Try telling me with a straight face that the American suck-ups (National) wouldn't have followed Trump's stupidity and denied Covid long enough that we'd be in the same position as USA...

Re: SNOW, TRAFFIC JAMS AND ELECTRIC CARS:

It can happen spontaneously although perhaps not often. I recall an issue with Ford Cortinas that had a faulty fuel tank filler pipe that could leak and cause a fire. Also seen where modified cars...

Re: MS Office - where did that come from?

I don't believe in free stuff when it's offered by a multinational corporate entity.

I'd love to see the Office 365 EULA. It's probably full of anti-privacy...

Technically, yes, but the presence of any bad sectors usually precedes more, or outright failure of the drive in short order.

Re: MS Office - where did that come from?

Also by using online office, I'm sure Microsoft will data-mine all your documents for targeted advertising and who-knows-what-else too!

    Why else is it free?

    Re: Defraggler

Any failing drive can/will cause data loss, if you defrag it or not.

One reason why it's recommended to run scandisk/chkdisk before defragmenting. Although it seems Windows nowadays lets you run...

A lot of them don't, actually.
It was only Ubuntu and its derivatives that started the Year.Month versioning scheme.

For Debian, which Ubuntu is based on, the latest is version 10.

I have no idea what you mean by "Linux 18" but it depends on the distro. Some aggressively deprecate support for older hardware while others don't.
