    Microsoft support and recovery assistant

This just appeared on my desktop yesterday. I hadn't done anything (AFAIK) to request it. Has anybody used it? Is it any good? Is it malware?

Re: Help with access to late husband's computer

The thing is, I don't know exactly what the access issues are, and she doesn't yet have the vocabulary to properly describe them. That is why I've told her to talk to her IT instructor, and maybe...

Re: Windows 11 Latest Tech Preview

Sorry to be a grinch, and this is interesting, but it is totally OT for Windows 11. Maybe someone should start a new thread called "Laptop maintenance" or something.

I think you are being a bit harsh. This 70+year old woman PC newbie "is willing to have a go" in the sense that she wants to learn and do as much as she can. She doesn't know very much...

Re: Help with access to late husband's computer

It is a Windows PC. The answer to all the other questions is "I don't know". As you say, difficult to help remotely. That is why I suggested she talk to her IT instructor.
She now tells me she has...

Help with access to late husband's computer

My fairly recently widowed sister in England is having problems accessing her late husbands PC. He was very security conscious and it sounds like he had the machine locked down fairly tightly. She...

Back to the subject of this thread: Build 22504 downloading now. Usual fixes, plus changes to the your phone app and new themes for various things. Yippee!

Re: Windows 11 Latest Tech Preview

My personal (and admittedly slightly chicken) take is that unless you are happy to take risks that your PC might be bricked, stick with Win10.

Ha! I was about to ask the same question. I looked on my Google DAshboar5d and the only hardware reference I could find was to my current phone.

I'm thinking of giving my old (but still perfectly useable) Android phone to a needy friend. I'm planning to do a factory reset first, but is there anything else I need to think about?

Yes, weather could be a bit of an issue. Once I actually get to install the whole thing I will be weatherproofing it as much as possible. That said, in fact my mailbox does keep pretty dry.

It's the Jaycar one I'm trying to build. That's not actually prebuilt - it's a set of instructions and a parts list. The microswitch I am having a problem with is in the foreground of the photo.
