    Re: Legacy System Problem[s]

Sorry! Just luck, really. Plus comparing it to other passwords which may have been re-utilised, a second time. Took quite a few tries, though, as lock-out occurred on three successive errors and a...

    Resolved: Legacy System Problem[s]

The most frustrating part of this problem is that following the manufacturer's instruction manual did not work. Black mark for AS Rock.

(Who reads manuals these days, anyway, did I hear you say?)...

    Re: Legacy System Problem[s]

The HDD with the broken jack point has been successfully cloned, by a tech with much greater experience than me.

But 'cracking' the BIOS has us defeated, still. The tech is at the point of...

    Re: Legacy System Problem[s]

No. Tried that three times, in case I was not doing it right. It did clear some things, but not the password. Weird.

    Re: Legacy System Problem[s]

I did have that detail at hand (thanks), but, after 4 attempts, trying the specified steps in varying orders, I still can't break the BIOS password code.

    Re: Legacy System Problem[s]

Right - I've taken the drive out (1Tb WD) and with the aid of lots of sticky tape and jury rigging, I've managed to get to the BIOS splash screen. But no password. So it's Wainuitech's plan, next.

    Re: Legacy System Problem[s]

I did try that, but the admin password would not work at root level.
Same when I could access the BIOS - I don't have the password.

The error message did say the file was missing OR corrupt, so...

Re: Legacy System Problem[s] XP SP3

    Thanks for your replies.

The mobo is an ASRock FM2A55M-DGS.

I can't seem to access the BIOS, now.

Aha! The plastic guide tongue of one HDD SATA socket is broken off in the plug. (I've prised...

    Legacy System Problem[s]

    Windows XP SP3

After pulling out the power supply to re-lubricate the fan, all hell broke loose at start up.

Further peering around revealed a SATA cable had been dislodged from one of the...
  11. Re: Network Printer Security - Reserving / Excluding Access

I like the famous last words bit, I do. I can't recall all the details of the printer s'ware install, but two printers have static IPs, plus a security camera and associated recorder. There's maybe...
  12. Re: Network Printer Security - Reserving / Excluding Access

Thanks, Wainuitech. The web interface is an option on this printer model, too. Gave that a look but ran into a block. All devices on the network are running off DHCP for a connection (via the modem)...
  13. Re: Network Printer Security - Reserving / Excluding Access

Sorry - I didn't quite explain all I meant to, I suspect. Happens when dealing with things new. Seeing is one thing; using is another. There are other PCs on the network, all set to NOT share; that...
  14. Network Printer Security - Reserving / Excluding Access

I want to exclude a networked printer from certain devices (or include by device/user ID - if that's easier) on a network. It seems there's no such functionality within the printer software, but is...

Re: Who is still using firefox?

FF seems to be crashing on program close (loosing tabs), something that has not been prevalent in the past, but otherwise OK.

I could never quite grasp why so many confine themselves to one...

    Re: Compaq Presario V6000

Damn. E-mail from Techie saying the CPU is
cooked. Possibly because of fan failure.

    Re: Compaq Presario V6000

:thanks I do appreciate all the helpful insights!

    CYaBro: yes, I think so.

Blam: It wont boot into any damn mode!
No BIOS beeps, either, even with the RAM removed.

    Wainuitech: wont do it...

    Compaq Presario V6000

Re: Vista, Presario v6000 & WiFi Adapter Quirk

After much introspection, I decided that
the DHCP in the (mine/internal) web server
was at fault. It was, so now (for now?)
    the problem is fixed.

Vista, Presario v6000 & WiFi Adapter Quirk

Caveat - This is a partner's laptop and it's running Bitsa, about which I have almost no knowledge (apart from "I hate it!")

I have purchased, fitted and installed a realtek USB WiFi adapter.

Re: MS Word Form Fields Design Question

My glance @ VBA gave me the shivers, despite
kind assistance from folks @ the VBA forums.
I suspect ms-access would be brain damage
    territory.

I've given the ms-word form my best shot.
    It's...

Re: MS Word Form Fields Design Question

I've got over that issue in that I've come to terms with
    the limitations.
A nominally similar answer to the previous paragraph.
Within the limitations I have to deal with, I'm more or
    less happy...
