    Re: Optical Drive recognition problem

I think I will replace it. As I said, it's only about $30. CD/DVD may be becoming obsolete, but I certainly still have a use for one.

    Thanks for the help.

I should also say that when I originally posted, the BIOS wasn't recognising it either.

    Re: Optical Drive recognition problem

It seems to be one of those intermittent things - don't you hate that? Yesterday evening it was being recognized by the BIOS and by Win10, then Win10 seemed to lose track of it. This morning the BIOS...

    Optical Drive recognition problem

2 PCs, both running Win 10. One pretty old, one not so much. Each has an optical drive.

The drive on the OLD machine is not recognised by that machine, but works fine on the newer PC. The drive on...

Well, that was an interesting exercise.
The VM updated quickly and cleanly - as I reported.
The multibooted OS thought it was installing 17074 when I went to windows update and I had to go through...

Re: Windows 10 --- Latest Tech Preview

I meant 17083 (not 17063 - finger trouble) for the rest of those on the insider program.
I have to agree with Wainuitech though - although I'm not advocating that everyone should get on the insider...

Build 17083 on its way now. Looks like a lot of new stuff. Interestingly it appears to be also installing on the old PC that didn't see the last couple of builds.

That could be a definite maybe. I'll pas it on to my friend. Thanks.
  17. Re: Reading old Mac 3.5" floppies on a Windows machine?

I am totally not optimistic about getting any results. I'm also not going to over-exert myself - there is absolutely no evidence that there is anything of any use on these disks even if we can read...
  18. Re: Reading old Mac 3.5" floppies on a Windows machine?

I've talked with the guy who asked me and it turns out he got the disks from someone else. I've told him his first step is to go back to the donor and see if he still has a machine that can read...

  20. Reading old Mac 3.5" floppies on a Windows machine?

    Is this even possible?
I have a tech-challenged friend who has some old discs with card info on them that he wants to access. He thinks they are Mac discs. Has anyone any suggestions for ways to get...

Thanks for that. I'm going to persevere with getting the envelopes sorted atm, but if I do go to labels I'll certainly get good quality ones.

I'm reconciled to cpp being higher than I've been used to, but while I haven't managed to find data for my particular model, Kyocera seem to be in the middle of the pack for costs.

Re: Looking for colour printer recommendations

What a saga! I'd decided on a Samsung Sl-C1810W Colour Laser Printer, so I ordered it from Warehouse Stationery for 1-2 day delivery plus a $50 gift card. 31/2 weeks later it still hadn't arrived,...
