    Re: Terminology question

Most modern CPUs have fTPM built in, it just tends to be disabled by default. Enabling it should be good enough for Windows 11.

Re: Windows 10 --- Latest Tech Preview

Chances are you don't actually need to install a separate TPM :)

I just turned on PTT in the BIOS settings and suddenly Windows 10 said I now have a TPM 2.0 chip.

Right click an empty portion of the tab bar, and select Customise Toolbar

Then from the customisation window, drag the Search item into the toolbar, wherever you want to place it.

I'm getting the same thing - I'm using Office 365 so Outlook is definitely up to date.

Re: Windows 10 --- Latest Tech Preview

    Two points:

You should not disable Windows Update.
This thread is about pre-release versions of Windows, so stuff will absolutely break in these versions.

Also don't forget, turning your hazard lights on gives you the right to park anywhere you like, including on the footpath.

    Re: Internet Explorer 11

I highly recommend never opening Internet Explorer ever again, and using something modern instead :)

It works just fine, of course ;)
  18. Re: Advice required - Windows 7 updating for Nod (&me)

    This is poor advice.

Of course updates protect you, otherwise patches for zero-day exploits wouldn't be a thing.
  19. Re: Advice required - Windows 7 updating for Nod (&me)

I would not recommend sticking with an unsupported OS. Windows 10 really isn't all that different to Windows 7 anyway so you'll be fine :) Please stop using Internet Explorer entirely, especially...

Re: Windows 10 --- Latest Tech Preview

I can safely say I've never had a Windows update render a PC unbootable.

I can't say the same about Linux :)

It's worth noting that HDMI to DVI adapters are very cheap as they use the same signalling, so DVI on the PC might not be a requirement :)

    Re: M.2 Socket 3

"M key" and "PCIe mode only" are pretty much the same thing - the M.2 slot only supports (physically) drives running in PCIe mode (which is what you want anyway).

    22602280 is actually two things,...
