  1. Re: A Twitter problem! Has Twitter got Dementia?

Well I can't imagine there would be any point whatsoever in asking anyone else!

Twitter support work for Twitter, if you have a technical problem with your account, only Twitter themselves are...

Re: Window 10 2009 Out now

I know exactly where you're coming from, and I totally get it.

But I can imagine that this is going to cause a lot of consternation.

"But Windows 10 used to work on my computer, why doesn't it...

Re: Window 10 2009 Out now

I don't agree, it IS a MS problem if the previous Win10 build worked with the current drivers. Microsoft has broken compatibility with them. They're also the ones who want to force updates on...

Re: Window 10 2009 Out now

That's going to be interesting. How will they work along that? Will MS just drop support and tell you to buy a new computer, or write new drivers themselves?

    Re: HDD or SSD

SSDs are fast but the more they are used, the shorter the data retention... A well worn SSD can have your data evaporate in a matter of years.

HDDs are cheaper and better for long term storage,...

Studying philosophy is not worthless, it improves critical thinking and helps avoid religious delusions, such as believing in God.

Re: External Monitor message "Not in range"

That laptop is too new to have an analogue video output.

He has a HDMI to VGA converter.

Does the monitor have a DVI port? An HDMI to DVI cable would be a much better option.

    You may need to...

Huh. Well that's good for you.

I look up tradespeople online, pick the ones with best reviews, and get crap service every time! Maybe I'm doing it the wrong way??

    Re: Building

    Sounds too dodgy to me!

Good builders are always busy, that's why they're booked up and you have to wait.

Good builders don't go into liquidation or have unpaid concrete bills...

    Re: Contactiing Certain Websites

Yeah, everyone knows you're supposed to buy a new car, drain the oil, put it in your old car, and throw the new car away...

    I'm sure that's how B.M. does it, anyway. :p

    Re: Contactiing Certain Websites

Good luck getting support from those sites. If they even read their emails, yours will probably be buried under a tonne of spam and endless RTFM questions.
  15. Re: Asus K73TA/A73T laptop - Win 10 installation issues: accept, fiddle, or go to 8.1

Then you could say most likely it's a hardware fault. In fact I think trying a live Linux USB or DVD would be a useful troubleshooting step at this point.

It seems the laptop in question was...
  16. Re: Asus K73TA/A73T laptop - Win 10 installation issues: accept, fiddle, or go to 8.1

Windows comes with generic drivers for HDDs, optical drives, yes, and they typically work fine, as the drives all should adhere to the IDE/SATA/etc standards. Only very strange and non-standard...

Re: Laptop charger makes unusual noise

I did mean AC socket. I've opened/repaired many chargers and it's a common problem.

It's one of the few faults where a charger could make obvious noises but still work (for a while). Most audible...
  18. Re: Problem with keyboard? - or something else?

Some wireless keyboards also go into sleep mode, in that case the first one or two keystrokes will wake it up, but won't actually be sent.

Re: Laptop charger makes unusual noise

The charger is probably on the way out, especially if it did not do that before.

That said, while power supplies should not typically make noise, sometimes they will make hiss, buzz, or humming...

    Re: Mouse freezing issue

    Could have just gone faulty.

I've seen wireless keyboards, mice etc just fail over time before.

Not sure what happens, maybe the RF circuitry drifts in frequency and can't communicate anymore.
