    Re: Contactiing Certain Websites

Yeah, everyone knows you're supposed to buy a new car, drain the oil, put it in your old car, and throw the new car away...

    I'm sure that's how B.M. does it, anyway. :p

    Re: Contactiing Certain Websites

Good luck getting support from those sites. If they even read their emails, yours will probably be buried under a tonne of spam and endless RTFM questions.
  4. Re: Asus K73TA/A73T laptop - Win 10 installation issues: accept, fiddle, or go to 8.1

Then you could say most likely it's a hardware fault. In fact I think trying a live Linux USB or DVD would be a useful troubleshooting step at this point.

It seems the laptop in question was...
  5. Re: Asus K73TA/A73T laptop - Win 10 installation issues: accept, fiddle, or go to 8.1

Windows comes with generic drivers for HDDs, optical drives, yes, and they typically work fine, as the drives all should adhere to the IDE/SATA/etc standards. Only very strange and non-standard...

Re: Laptop charger makes unusual noise

I did mean AC socket. I've opened/repaired many chargers and it's a common problem.

It's one of the few faults where a charger could make obvious noises but still work (for a while). Most audible...
  7. Re: Problem with keyboard? - or something else?

Some wireless keyboards also go into sleep mode, in that case the first one or two keystrokes will wake it up, but won't actually be sent.

Re: Laptop charger makes unusual noise

The charger is probably on the way out, especially if it did not do that before.

That said, while power supplies should not typically make noise, sometimes they will make hiss, buzz, or humming...

    Re: Black screen on boot

Have you tried putting in a brand new BIOS battery?

Your original problem about pressing F2 could have been a warning about corrupt settings from a flat battery.

    But some motherboards won't...

    Re: Mouse freezing issue

    Could have just gone faulty.

I've seen wireless keyboards, mice etc just fail over time before.

Not sure what happens, maybe the RF circuitry drifts in frequency and can't communicate anymore.

Re: Do you switch off before the end?

I switched off my TV years ago and it hasn't been on since.

Too many ads and too much drivel.

Sounds like you have a "two pages per sheet" option set somewhere.

Note that reinstalling your drivers may not necessarily reset the settings. These may be saved in registry somewhere and never...

    Re: LED bulbs: placement?

Interesting, the first LED bulb I bought was from Mitre10 and it failed in short order.

It drove the LEDs in two parallel strings, one LED in one string failed, causing twice as much current to go...
  16. Re: Are there any people out there using Cat6 or Cat7 at the moment?

The biggest speed improvement I had with gigabit Ethernet was using a decent Intel NIC instead of the onboard Real(slow)tek.

Changing my home-made Cat5e cables to factory made Cat6 did nothing.

    Re: Printer

Consumer grade printers are junk these days, that's the problem.

Something like an old Laserjet IIIP, now those were built like tanks and last forever.

A vegan sausage is basically just chopped up soybeans, which...

So what if it's not meat? Unless you're some kind of carnivore which must not eat anything but meat, I bet you already eat lots of things that aren't meat. Most people do.
