Re: Printer Manufacturers are
Looking at the reviews on Amazon for the Brother HLL3230CDW I think I would give that a miss as well. Most common complaint. "the tone cart thinks it's empty and the printer stops until you go and buy a new cart" The reviews for the Epson inktanks were better.
Re: Printer Manufacturers are
Wont comment on Injets, Dont have any and certainly wouldn't use Epsons, seen way to many problems - Admittingly they are the crude general consumer versions.
But as a comparison for toners.
I have a Brother MFCL2713DW 34ppm Mono Laser MFC Printer WiFi. Use the Toner that is advertised @ Yield ~3,000 Pages (at 5% Coverage).
Spot on really, can always go through a Whole box (5 REAMS = 2500 Pages) of Paper and not need to change the Toner. More often than not I get between 6-61/2 reams per toner.
The Color Laser as well is close to the advertised usage, of course depending on what colors are used will depend on how the toners last. But the Black is replaced on average once for every 1 1/2 color. Just replaced the Color about 3 months ago ( 2nd time) and the black is only now complaining its almost empty from the 1st Change.

TN2445 Brother High Yield BlackToner
$122.95
Rather a lot for 5 reams. I print roughly 530 pages a month....
Still thats good page count....now find me one that does that AND is colour.

According to the original drum counts, mine has done 12920pages and only started on the 2nd toners now in about 5 years -- With Toners they don't evaporate like inks do if not used.
As for pricing you can get a set of 5 Toners (4 color and Black) for $149, Approximately 2,500 pages @ 5% coverage / toner.
Color is different than straight black, some people will print more with one color than others so cant really compare. There have been many times Cyan or Magenta will run out while the others are hardly used.
I found a Old Laser the other day when doing a tidy up, after chasing the spider out, fired up and printed instantly, still had 1/2 its toner from about 9 -10 years ago. Bet a inkjet couldn't do that. ;)
Re: Printer Manufacturers are
I still use am old Brother HL-1440 for B\W printing . Still goes well after all these years. Once every couple of years chuck in a refill tone cart. Put a new imaging drum in last year that I bought from Harvey Norman about 15 years ago for $25 on clearance. For color a canon TS8160 mainly because I still print some CDs and DVDs . Had a a TS9060 before that until the print head clogged up so much that washing it with warm water failed to clean it. Canon suggested taking up to them in Auckland and they would look at it. If I did it would have been $75 for assessment and about $80 for a new print head. The TS8160 replacement only cost $99 on special. Some of the home HP color printers look attractive based on Amazon and PB Tech reviews and pricing.

Another thing....you keep stressing the 5% thing. So what exactly do you print because this is 5%:Attachment 10619
I print full pages, mix of black (mostly) with a wee bit of colour.

When I worked for a toner refilling company, they relied on nobody doing a page count , we would have been out of business if they did
page count is a bit like mpg used to be on cars, so many factors involved & alot of BS .

That's not quite as blatant as the "Music Power" ratings, or all the other drivel eagerly lapped up by the golden ears brigade (Audiophiles.) Long chain oxygen-free copper speaker leads anyone? :)
