Are there ways to preserve lemons?
Hey forum members,
I got 12 big lemons from my lovely lemon tree this spring so far but I’m using these up at too slow a rate to prevent rotting.
Are there ways to preserve the lemons in jars or as powder for later use?
Thanks in advance,
Barry the very good lemon grower.
Re: Are there ways to preserve lemons?
So if you're a very good lemon grower, soon you won't need to, you'll have so many you'll be handing them out to anyone who holds still long enough. Once the tree gets big enough anyone............ours is small yet but the Tangelo...must have had 400 or so on it...still has heaps...running out of people to donate to.
And juiced heaps...
But here you go:

Or....grate the zest and freeze it....juice the rest and put it in ice cube trays....then once frozen, put the cubes in a container and keep in freezer and get one or two out as required.

Soak for 2-3 minutes in a mixture of Gin, Tonic Water and ice.
When contents reach the desired temperature, sip slowly and store internally.
Not a terribly good way for long term storage but extremely satisfying nevertheless!

Thank you Kenj for the suggestion. I’ll try it for my weekly Friday night drinks as I happen to have a bit of dry gin and a box of ice cube bags, I’ll make the ice cubes in the freezer. I tried a bit of dry gin mixed with zero sugar coke last weekend and the mixture tasted great! :-)

In the warmer areas there are so many you see them all over the road and peoples sections. Passed one yesterday, on the berm...lemons all in the gutters...
My son allows neighbours to help themselves but still mows a lot up each year.
Should be some method of sharing round the country...
Re: Are there ways to preserve lemons?
We do have a yearly collection here in Hawke's Bay which sends citrus to the South Island. Not to sure of the details. Rotary maybe?

Just looked it up.
