Regards,
Go to Start and search for Services then open it
Scroll down to the Windows update service and see if it's running; if it's set to disabled then right click it, go properties > and change start up type to manual, then reboot.
run winver . what build version of 10 do you have. If its a really old build ver, that may be the issue ?
or
could be a temp error. Try again tommorow
Restart the PC. Connect to internet via cables not wifi . make sure internet speed is good https://www.speedtest.net/

as a last resort
disable update service , delete C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution , restart update service .
Or just reset Win10 .
also, go into update history . Look for failed updates . See when last update happened
It MIGHT be a only single update thats failing , might be trying to download an expired or buggy update
Try running the following commands from CMD/Administrator sfc /scannow and dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
If that still fails it may be a better option to simply go to the Microsoft https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/soft...load/windows10 And upgrade to the latest version, 2004 is getting a bit old.

your update history was empty, so things are quite screwed up
either
reset Win10 (backup data first) . Its similar to a clean re-install
or delete the softwaredist..... folder

Not quite sure what you are saying rimutaka because figure 6 you posted is the latest version of Win 10.
Latest release 10.0.19043.1237 (September 14, 2021)
Hi Zqwerty,
Yes, I have latest release of Windows 10 version but when I am wanting to update Windows, an error message appeared, as shown by figure 7 (attached).
Then, when I use Windows troubleshooter to check it, another error message appeared, as shown by figure 8 (attached).
Hopefully, the above explanations help.

Ok I see what you are saying, try opening task manager and finding Windows Update service and see if it is set to Automatically start. In fact see if it is running at all, set it to run and check that it does.
Looks as if baabits has already suggested something similar in post #2.
By default the Windows Update service is set to "Manual (Trigger Start)
What does it say under the link, bottom left ( Post #11 - figure 8) View detailed information ?
Sometimes its nothing of any help other times its actually useful :)
Theres also more than one service that needs to be running. Not going to list them all, but have a read -- microsoft-windows-update-wont-start-2/
Hi All,
Yesterday I decided to reset Windows and now it works well.
Thank you for all suggestions.
