P3 doesnt recognise full HDD capacity.
Hey peeps,
Got a Pentium 3 (socket 370, 833MHz) machine, bought a 320GB HDD but the machine only sees 136GB! I understand that I need to update the BIOS to see if it recognizes the the full capacity. Was wondering if theres anything else that I can do cos i dont really feel like playing around with the BIOS.
If not than whats the easiest way to update the BIOS.
And has anyone done the BIOS update of a P3 machine for the same reason as I wana do and it worked (full HDD was recognized by the BIOS)
Thanks.
Re: P3 doesnt recognise full HDD capacity.
It all depends on the motherboard.
What brand/model motherboard do you have, and what revision/version?

Re: P3 doesnt recognise full HDD capacity.
What does the BIOS show the HDD to be?
What OS are you using?
What SP of the OS are you using? (if applicable)

Only sees 136GB Primary Master
Got XP Pro with SP2
Re: P3 doesnt recognise full HDD capacity.
You'll have to see if theres a BIOS update then.
If there's no update, there's not much you can do about the rest of the hdd.
Because the BIOS would have to see all of it, before an OS will see all of it.
Might pay to check the mobo itself for a name/model.
Or get Belarc. See if that gives you something better than IBM Sis 630E
Re: P3 doesnt recognise full HDD capacity.
OK so it's an IBM. Why not just tell us what model?

If you look at the MB Pic I uploaded.. it tells you everything.
Re: P3 doesnt recognise full HDD capacity.
SiS 630E is the model of a particular SiS chipset.
Unless IBM are idiots (which they probably are) SiS-630E is NOT your motherboard model.
If you can't get info on the mobo with Belarc (I'd personally use Astra32 http://www.astra32.com, I don't like Belarc) then:
You'll need to open the computer and look at the motherboard, often the brand and model (or at least just model number) is written on it. And it's usually written in between two of the PCI slots.
