Hi everyone,

I was just wondering out of interest if anyone has come across any good, free codecs for Quicktime running under Windows. Particuarly Xvid and the like.

Cheers,

Paul

Personally I never use quicktime. I prefer VLC or GOM

EDIT:Oops, misread your post..do you need codes for quicktime? Or to play Quicktime files?

If the latter, download K-Lite, as noted below.

The K-Lite codec (http://www.codecguide.com/) pack will allow you to play QuickTime. Not sure if it supports the very latest versions or not, but most newer .mov files are just Mpeg4 anyhow.

Thanks guys. I have the K-Lite codec pack...was actually implying codecs for the Quicktime player itself. I usually use vlc but have just been dabbling with Apple Software recently!

cheers

Looks like you can use these in QT (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/resources/components.html)

But the Xvid install file is only for Apple PC's not windows

Most QuickTime components are for OS X; installing a QT component there makes it available to the vast majority of "media-centric" apps. On Windows it's a different story and QuickTime is really only just a player and very few apps hook into it.

Then there is Quicktime Alternative:
