Hi all,

Just came across a spam in my inbox the other day which I had trouble deleting (to restore the 'new mail' counter to zero, as is my custom). Turned out this slippery new spam mail had a date on it as having been sent in the year of our lord 1976. So it took me a while to find it hiding way down the bottom of my emails.

Then again today, another one came, this time... from the future! Still for some reason it too was placed at the bottom of the list although it was supposedly sent in 2104...

Hopefully Thunderbird will have a filter soon to automatically delete emails with ridiculous dates...:spam:yuck:

How come it's even possible to modify the date to go back that far? Emails (and spam) weren't around in 1976 (and likely not in 2104, as we'll have portals by then :D).

Thats why you have your own spam filters - my inbox has no spam what so ever - I use Mailwasher - it looks at the mail before you allow it in, then you manually tell it what to dump, bounce back to the sender or allow through - lots of these automatic mail filters fail very nicely, and the spammers know this.

Good part there is a free version, and the original Mailwasher was designed by a Kiwi, Nick Bolton - in Christchurch.

The wrong date on emails probably gives spammers a chance their email will be looked at, as the recipient has to go looking for the unread email in the inbox.

Vista only lets me go back to 1980 and up to 2099, although it doesn't need to go back past 2000. :stare:

The same restrictions apply to XP. :nerd:

Reminds me of the old technique for extending the use of a 90 day trial or shareware.

Change the date in the BIOS. Then look at the ensueing problems as they happen.

The same restrictions apply to XP. :nerd:Well maybe they are using Windows 3.1 ... or Linux.
