View Full Version : internet sharing

Hi there,
Am sure there are quite a few people in the same situation; two computers, one phone line.
Our computers are networked and I would like to use the same line by 'sharing' the modem in one machine. I understand Windows 2000 provides that option, can you also do it with both computers running Windows 98? If so is it easy to set up?
Or are there any other ways of doing this. Jetstream, Jetstart, ISDN are not options as that seems to be reserved for people that live in the city, and it does not look like telecom is interetsed in extending those services. Waihi is too samll for them.

You can get modem sharing programs that you install on both computers. Check out http://www.tucows.co.nz/share95.html

I recommend SyGate it is a good program.

Also I think Windows 98 may have the Internet Connection sharing option, but it may only come with Windows 98 SE. I'm not too sure.

To check, go to Start --> Settings --> Control Panel --> Add/Remove Programs.

Select the Windows Setup tab, and somewhere in there should be the internet connection sharing feature (it will be within another group of features, eg click on the Communications option and click the details button to view all feature associated with that group).

Good luck!
