Hi. This morn. firefox wanted to update. I let it, now the screen page is far too large and every time I try to go on the internet it says "firefox has encounted a problem and will have to close". I went back one day to a restore point but the same error message occurs. Also did a restart but to no avail. This problem has occured in the past but I can not find how I fixed it. I am having to use Internet Explorer to get on the net. Anyone have any suggestions please?

Try running Firefox in safe mode and see if it makes a difference. You will find the safe mode option under Start > All Programs > Firefox.

BTW what version Firefox are we talking about? 3.0.5 or earlier version like 3.0.1?

Probably FF3, FF2 doesn't have any updates any more

- well not that I know of. I've been on 3.0.1 for some time however there is a 3.0.5 available. I was interested in why Firefox suddenly updated itself when there doesn't appear to be a standard release at present.

Jen... Started FF in safe mode, rebooted, now when I click on FF...open, it just sits and nothing happens. I think the update was 3.0.5. I shall now delete FF in add remove and install from pc world disc ver.3.0.3.

Installed FF 3.0.3. from disc. Still too large. Went to Mozilla support and found my problem in the COMMUNITY SUPPORT section. Followed the instructions and everything now fine. Incidently whilst all this was happening an update 3.0.5 got installed.

In the location, address bar type ...about:config.....then enter....when the "be careful" comes up click on it...in FILTER type.....layout.css.dpi.If it shows then double click to edit,
enter...96.....if not shown right click in the grid, select NEW then INTERGER. In the ENTER THE PREF. type...layout.css.dpi....OK...Enter 96 ok...go to FF FILE and exit.
This worked well for me. Now on FF3.0.5.,....I found all this in the FF support forum by entering "FIRE FOX TOO LARGE"...Hope this helps.
