Anybody here take any notice of S.M.A.R.T. monitoring on their hard drive?

Only if it brings up an error on boot-up saying that it has detected a problem and the drive should be checked/replaced ASAP.

Believe SMART. 90% of the time it's right on.

At the very least make sure you have any important data backed up.

I have found the old Seatools to be excellent.
The new one is crap.

You get the message generally when your PC is POST'ing

My hard drive failed to boot the other day in the 40 degree heat we had in Christchurch - I looked up the smart information through Speedfan and used the in depth online analysis button - other than airflow temp being in the red it said:

Seek Error Rate is below the average limits (53-100)

Not sure whether to be worried or not - everything else is in the green on it. It's a Seagate.

When do you sleep, CS?
If posting is the first screen up after pushing the power button ,that's correct!

POST = Power On Self Test, yes its the first screen you see prior to booting your OS :)
