My NEC notebook has been facing some internet connection problems of late. It has no problems connecting to the internet after startup, but after a while, the connection will suddenly die and there will be no networks available even thought the wi-fi button is switched on. Any advice/answers? The os is vista btw.

Does the connection suddenly die after the screen saver comes on, or after a period of no activity Or is it suddenly dieing when you are using it ?

Assuming that your Spyware etc free, It might be a good idea to get the latest versions of the drivers, or reinstall the current drivers.

Could be a router problem -
What make and model of router do you have ?
Do you have more than this one Laptop connecting ?

Your LAN connection should be PPPoA - it appears the router may be dropping it settings and defaulting back to its default settings, as the laptop is detecting something.

When it drops - check the heat of the router - is it hotter than when working normally ?

Yes, he probably is.

Look in device manager under *network adapters*

Then go to the wifi manufacturer's website and download then install the drivers.

Uninstall it in device manager first, right click>uninstall.

Or, if the manufacture has a removal tool, use that

Good Luck:D
