I have had a guts full of xnet. Download times are getting ridiculous. Last night I tried to download from a server in the Netherlands, 5 kbps! My download was going to take 53 hours.

Tried again at 4 am this morning. 109 kbps and it's going to take just under four hours.

Is there any ISP who can supply a faster service?

I notice ping time to xnet is 84. Ping xtra about 7.

Would replacing my router help? I have a Belkin. Dunno the model.

I've had a great run out of Kinect, a subsidiary of Trustpower.

Could be worth seeing what they have to offer in your area. ;)

Never been a fan of the Belkins, they're not the greatest... See if you can get one from somewhere that will let you return it... Not saying Ive done this (Of course not) but I know people who've "loaned" an item from DSE for a day or two for testing things like that ;)

I was getting over 720KB/s this morning at 8:30AM here in Aucks... = 5760kb/s = 5.625M/bits :D
Have screenshot as proof too, will post later

Xnet has the new torrent plan. Its a night time plan. Thats why speed goes to crap then.

I've been looking around and, as bad as Xtra is in terms of reliability, service and lately speed too it seems, they're still the best in terms of price and allowance. I would like a faster ISP, but right now I'd personally have to pick monthly allowance over speed.

If I had more speed and less allowance I'd just end up running out quicker.

Xtra's starting to look quite attractive with 10gb a month..

I am on Xtra at home at the moment. Im not paying for it. It's go large. I am impessed with the performance of it. As long as you don't need to call Xtra for anything you should be fine!

I'm considering the 40gb plan, has anyone else had/having good experiences with it?

Xtra, on the 10G plan that became 20G

Speeds : down 5300 kb/s up 475 kb/s ping 60. Got to 6800 a few minutes ago. Enough said

Im using an SMC Router ... I'd recommend the Linksys AM300, it uses the same chipset from what Ive been told :)

I'm on the 20gb Xtra one. A while ago it was really quite good, but right now I can never seem to get a fast speed for downloads. It fluctuates a lot between a high speed and a low speed constantly. I do live in the sticks, though.

I just joined Xnet and the speeds are very very good. Not as fast as what CS is getting but pretty close.

Linksys AG310 through a Linksys WRT54G

This is me grabbing Ubuntu 8.10 from a Server in the US via Usenet. Its using SSL encryption mind you, so I wonder if I'd taken that off if I coulda got faster :D
It wasnt just *peaking* at that speed, but hovering around going above and below it the whole time!

Attached file: Speeds_at_8-30_this_morning.jpg (http://www.imagef1.net.nz/files/Speeds_at_8-30_this_morning.jpg) (53 KB)

Just started another download, its 6:40PM, speeds are around 380KB/s ... Not quite as impressive, but definitely acceptable IMO!

That's better than I ever get, mine used to peak out at 300KB/s when it was going well. Which ISP did you say you're with?
