I have an old Compaq Desktop
I have replaced the CMOS battery but,
it still does not keep the date and time.

Is this an indication of a failing motherboard?

Are the Regional and Language Options settings set to NZ in Control Panel?

Did you reconfigure the BIOS / set the date / time / year in the BIOS.

After you replaced the battery? Then save the settings, then reboot?

Maybe the battery you brought is flat?

Did you remove the CMOS jumper, or just set the BIOS to its default settings, then reconfigure the settings??

If you did remove the jumper, did you put it back in the right place?

Ok, I had thought of that but hypothetically (so we don't need to go back and forth):
If I replace the battery with another new one & the computer still doesn't retain the date & time, what am I looking at?

I doubt that the mobo is the prob, if the time was fine before you replaced the battery.

The battery is probably flat

When I got the computer the time wasn't being retained.
But that is ok.
I'll get another battery & give it a go.

Thank you - good day!

Hmm well it maybe the mobo then if it never kept the time.

Unless a BIOS update will fix that
