When I try to boot my PC everything whirrs into life, but the screen stays off. It is plugged in... Does this mean my CPU is buggered? It is a little chipped on one edge. It's a duron 1100.

Remove the RAM - power up the PC, it should beep with error's indicating no RAM. What Happens ???

Does the screen say " No Signal" ??? Try unplugging the monitor from the PC, you should get the No signal message or something similar.

Edited: what color is the power LED on the monitor when the PC tries to boot - Green or orange/brownish ??

No the 'No Signal' goes off when I plug it in. Tried the RAM out, no difference. Not sure about the LED. It seems a bit dead to me.
