Hi
On a network - Win XP.
Norton picks up that there is a potential problem, quarantines it, lets us choose to remove it, but then on start up it appears again.
Any suggestions?
(Have tried googling and got all sorts of hits, but not sure which, if any, are ok/ligit :-) and being a beginner not sure about going in and "playing" with registries - how much damage can i do??)
Any help appreciated.

Welcome to PF1.

Download Trojan Remover (http://www.simplysup.com/) - install , and update / run.

Disable system Restore first - right click My Computer/Properties/ System Restore Tab / Turn off System Restore.

Download from my sig, Malwarebytes, Spyware terminator, install update and run in full scan modes.

Get Hijack this (http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis) run it and save a log file, copy paste the complete log back here, someone (prob Speedy - if hes about) will advice.
Also get Ccleaner and install , run.

I'd suggest you dump Nortons its rubbish - get either Avast ( free) or better still Nod32 (http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_int.php) - there is a 30 day trial.

How much damage can you do  Do you feel like completely reinstalling the Operating system / programs data etc :crying - LOTS of damage if you don't know what you are doing.
